Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) grant application deadlines as of 5/25/23.

  1. State Manufacturing Leadership (BIL)
    • Due date: May 30, 2023
    • Eligible entities: States
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Accelerate the deployment of smart manufacturing technologies at small- and medium-sized facilities.
  2. Grid Resilience State/Tribal Formula Grant Program (BIL)
    • Due date: May 31, 2023
    • Eligible entities: States and Tribal nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that strengthen and modernize America’s power grid against wildfires, extreme weather, and other natural disasters that are exacerbated by the climate crisis. Priority for projects that generate the greatest community benefit by providing clean, affordable, and reliable energy.
  3. Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program (IRA)
    • Due date: June 1, 2023
    • Eligible entities: State and local governments, Tribal nations, for- and non-profit entities, higher ed
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Increase equitable access to urban tree canopy and associated human health, environmental and economic benefits in disadvantaged communities, broaden community engagement in local urban forest planning, improve community and urban forest resilience to climate change, pests and storm events through best management and maintenance practices.
  4. Operation and Planning Tools for Inverter-Based Resource Management and Availability for Future Power Systems (OPTIMA)
    • Due Date: June 5, 2023
    • Eligible entities: State and local governments, Tribal nations, for- and non-profit entities, higher ed
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Research to develop technologies to address emerging challenges of variable renewable energy sources.
  5. Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program (BIL)
    • Due Date: June 5, 2023
    • Eligible entities: State and local governments ineligible for EECBG formula grant, Tribal nations, for- and non-profit entities, higher ed.
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Reduce fossil fuel emissions, reduce total energy use, improve energy efficiency, build a clean and equitable energy economy, consistent with the Justice40 Initiative.
  6. Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice in Communities (BIL)
    • Due Date: June 6, 2023
    • Eligible entities: States, state entities (including universities), Tribal nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that address environmental justice priorities and improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities by providing pollution prevention (P2) technical assistance to businesses (e.g., information, training, expert advice) on source reduction, also known as pollution prevention.
  7.  Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program (BIL)
    • Due date: June 13, 2023 (extended)
    • Eligible entities: Local governments and Tribal nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Deploy EV charging and other alternative vehicle-fueling infrastructure projects in publicly accessible locations in urban and rural communities, as well as along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs).
  8. Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice Through Safer and More Sustainable Products (BIL)
    • Due Date: June 20, 2023
    • Eligible entities: States, state entities (including universities), Tribal nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that address environmental justice by providing pollution prevention technical assistance to businesses (e.g., information, training, expert advice) to improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities by increasing the supply, demand, and use of safer and more sustainable products.
  9. Tribal Transit Competitive Program
    • Due date: June 26, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Tribal nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Planning and capital projects that include expanding or replacing buses, bus equipment, mobility management, constructing or rehabilitating facilities, technology, and more.
  10. Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking program (IRA)
    • Due date: June 30, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Community nonprofits and partnerships of community nonprofits and other entities, including between Tribal nations and community nonprofits, higher ed and community nonprofits, and multiple community nonprofits
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Up to 11 awards for community nonprofits and partnerships to serve as grant makers to community-based projects that reduce pollution.
  11. Rural Energy for America Program (IRA)
    • Due date: June 30, 2023 (quarterly application, first round closing on this date)
    • Eligible entities: Agricultural producers, rural small businesses
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Install renewable energy systems or to make energy-efficiency improvements in rural areas.
  12. Safe Streets and Roads for All (BIL)
    • Due date: July 10, 2023
    • Eligible entities: State entities, Tribal nations, MPOs
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that improve safety to pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation, micro mobility users, and more.
  13. Community-Based Energy Projects in Rural and Remote Areas (BIL)
    • Due Date: July 13, 2023
    • Eligible entities State and local governmental entities: Tribal nations, for- and non-profit entities, higher ed, or partnerships of any of the entities
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: At least one of the following: Improve overall cost-effectiveness of energy generation, transmission, or distribution systems, siting or upgrading transmission and distribution lines; reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy generation in rural or remote areas; prove or modernize electric generation facilities; develop microgrids; increase energy efficiency
  14. Transitioning Tribal Colleges and Universities to Clean Energy
    • Due Date: July 27, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Tribal colleges and universities
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Clean energy projects and curriculum planning
  15. Ride and Drive Electric (BIL)
    • Due Date: June 16, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Higher ed, for- and non-profit entities, state and local governments, and Tribal nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that are building a national network of EV chargers for all Americans by supporting EV charging reliability, resiliency, equity, and workforce development.
  16. Renew America’s Nonprofits (BIL)
    • Due date: August 3, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Tax-exempt entities
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that support the installation of materials to reduce energy or fuel use in buildings owned and operated by 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
  17. EDA Tech Hubs (Phase 1) (CHIPS)
    • Due Date: August 15, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Partnerships between entities including state and local governments, tribal nations, higher ed, industry groups, economic development organizations, and workforce training organizations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Investments in regions to make them globally competitive within 10 years in next-generation technologies and industries.
  18. Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Program (BIL)
    • Due date: August 18, 2023
    • Eligible entities: State and local governments, MPOs, Tribal Nations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that improve the resilience of the surface transportation system, including highways, public transportation, ports, and intercity passenger rail. 
  19. Clean School Bus Program Grants (BIL)
    • Due Date: August 22, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Local and state governments, Tribal nations, public charter schools, contractors, and non-profit transportation associations
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Replacing school buses in high-need local educational agencies, rural school districts, or school districts on Indian land with clean buses
  20. USDA Empowering Rural America (New ERA) program (IRA)
    • Due Date: August 31, 2023
    • Eligible entities: Member-owned electric co-ops
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Flexible funding to make energy efficiency improvements to eligible generation and transmission systems; to purchase, build, or deploy renewable energy, zero-emission systems, carbon capture storage systems; or to purchase renewable energy. 
  21. USDA Powering Affordable Clean Energy (PACE) program (IRA)
    • Due Date: September 29, 2023.
    • Eligible entities: States, corporations, municipalities, utility districts, nonprofits, cooperatives, and others that generate electricity for resale to residents with at least 50%of the population served in communities with populations of 20,000 or fewer
    • Climate-aligned eligible projects: Projects that make clean energy more affordable for rural Americans.
